iDesign Workshops during Honors Week

Join us for hands-on workshops during Honors Week, October 27-31, 2025, led by gifted faculty members from across campus who teach courses that are part of the Interdisciplinary Design certificate program. Discover the various activities and projects that occur in iDesign classes, led by faculty members. The workshops range from hands-on demonstrations of e-textiles to tips on designing visually compelling research posters, to learning what it takes to deliver a strong elevator pitch, and much more. Workshops will take place in the UNM Honors College, building #76, in the Honors forum and classroom 1020. See the map below if you are new to honors!

In response to the damaging progress on Project 2025, groups have begun creating Project 2029. However, concerns inherent in these efforts are that many current democratic leaders aim to recreate the prior status quo, to try to return us to exactly what was before. While many can defensibly argue that it was better than our current situation, in this design teach-in, we emphasize that the past was not good enough. It was inequitable. There were failings. We should not aim to reproduce the conditions that led us to where we are now!

In this design workshop, we’ll use collage to craft and express joyful visions (futurity/radical hope) or darkly critical speculations. All materials are provided, but feel free to bring a magazine, newspaper, or other paper to cut up if you want!

UNM Interdisciplinary Design Symposium

UNM's first Interdisciplinary Design Symposium was held from Feb. 26-March 8, 2024. Highlighting interdisciplinary design work and efforts at UNM and beyond, the symposium consisted of a workshop, two guest speakers, and a student exhibit highlighting interdisciplinary design creations.
